Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT)

Treating the Source, Not Only the Symptoms

Healing is a complicated process involving many systems of the body. Because the body integrates all its various systems in the natural healing process, we must consider the integrated role of these systems in our treatment approach. Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT) is a complementary approach for a strong orthopedic physical therapy treatment plan that allows patients to respond to typical treatment techniques such as joint mobilizations and therapeutic exercise with increased success.

IMT is a science of manually palpating and treating tissue damage by addressing dysfunctions through anatomy, physiology, and mechanics. Trauma results in tissue damage that the body will protect by making changes in range of motion, pain, and function. These dysfunctions often result in the signs and symptoms you feel. By addressing this tissue damage and the protective mechanisms involved, permanent restoration can occur. In effect, we are treating the source of the problem, not just the symptoms. This philosophy allows for the more complicated patient to be treated successfully.

IMT benefits a wide variety of patient problems, including post-surgery, trauma, chronic pain, and often those who have not responded to typical care.

If you feel you would benefit from this type of treatment approach, please discuss it with your physician to receive a prescription for physical therapy and call our office for an appointment.
